The Shoulder Sleeve Insignia of the “Eager Elites,” the motto-cum-nickname of the 22nd Signal Brigade, was approved for wear 29 June 1981, some three-and-a-half months after the unit’s nearly 14-year inactivation was ended by its redesignation from a Signal Group to a Signal Brigade.
Flashes symbolize communications when used as imagery in Signal Corps insignia, and crossed flashes are a sign of strength. A crowned eagle with a blue tongue is taken from the Frankfurt coat of arms, reflecting the unit’s location being based there following its activation.
One of the Brigade’s finest moments came in 1995 when its Headquarters and Headquarters Company and several of its battalions were deployed to Bosnia and Herzegovina in support of the joint Multi-National Division-North. Its expertise installing and configuring Mobile Subscriber Equipment facilitated communications between widely dispersed U.S., Turkish, Russian, and Polish forces operating in the area where Task Force Eagle was being conducted, earning the unit an Army Superior Unit award.
The 22nd Signal Brigade was inactivated on 22 May 2007.
