On 16 January 2014, the 7th Sustainment Brigade was redesignated the 7th Transportation Brigade (Expeditionary), or TB(X), to become the first and only unit of its type. It was the latest in a string of reorganizations and redesignations for the Brigade, which was originally constituted on 6 July 1942 as the 7th Port of Embarkation. Since then, its Headquarters and Headquarters Company has been the HHC for 7th Port, 7th Medium Port, 7th Transportation Medium Port, 7th Transportation Major Port, 7th Transportation Port Command C, 7th Transportation Command, and 7th Transportation Group before becoming the 7th Sustainment Brigade.
The 7th Transportation Brigade (Expeditionary) Shoulder Sleeve Insignia, or unit patch, was approved 3 April 1967 while it was designated as the 7th Transportation Command; in 1984, an exception was made to policy and it was authorized for wear by members of the 7th Transportation Group. It 2006, it was redesignated for the 7th Sustainment Brigade, bringing all the members of “the Army’s Navy” back into conformity with insignia regulations.
